Following a £650,000 refurbishment we opened at the end of 2022.  

This historic pub as been at the heart of the local community in Countesthorpe for the last 120 years. We took over after a 3 year closure. With a more premium approach to dining, we boast a large menu including our increasingly popular plated Sunday roasts, a varied lunch menu and special treats, served alongside a premium selection of drinks.

Curtis is the General Manager of The Axe & Square, having started off as Front of House staff at The Dovecote, he worked his way up with his cheeky personality and passion for exceeding guest expectations. He used this in his role as Assistant Manager during the opening of The Axe & Square and gained key skills and knowledge to progress him through to a General Manager role. 

He is supported by his Head Chef Jack who was a Senior Chef at The Dovecote and has a real passion for creating great, wholesome food. He used his passion and skills to help with the training and development of the kitchen team during the opening of The Bull before taking on the Head Chef role at The Axe, using his knowledge and passion about food to help put together our premium menu.
